wolsung & WASD Sports further establish themselves on top to start off week 4

As we hit the midpoint of our season (currently being at the week 4 of 8 of our competition), wolsung and WASD Sports keep on racking up victories no matter how hard the games tend to be! Yesterday Latvians of wolsung squeezed out their 6th victory this season against XGR eSports, while WASD Sports in a bit of an easier game did the same against Lithuanians of Žalgiris!

At first hand it seemed like this once again has to be one of those wolsung-like one-sided matches that they just roll with from the start till the end, but as the news of both teams having substitute players for this game came by, everything was reset and the game felt like it could go either way! For wolsung it was Warden standing in for hyskeee who had to play an official game with team he’s currently testing with forZe, while for the guys of XGR eSports the standin was HS, currently player of Tempo Storm, who replaced Krassner who’s reason of absence is unknown to us.

The game started off with krii clutching out the 1v1 situation on CT side pistol to give his team the edge going forwards (1:0). At the 3rd round mark XGR eSports guys managed to take a round back (2:1), but wolsung, as they always do, were quick to shut their opponents economy down with taking the next two round (5:1). While the beginning of the half was all about the Latvians, the latter half of it belonged to XGR eSports players as they scraped together seven rounds in the end, thus finishing the half with a one round deficit (8:7).

Upon the side switch a strong B site hold from Estonians secured them the pistol round (8:8), which was then followed up by an unbreakable defence all around the map and a few clutch rounds (like this) by HS going Estonian way to score them five more rounds (8:13). At that point wolsung had finally had enough of time to research their opponents and muster a plan of how to break the seemingly unbreakable as they took five rounds of their own making it an even game of 13:13. The last four rounds were then taken back and forth as teams came to a scoreline of 15:15.

The overtime started off with XGR eSports laying a strong foundation for a possible upset victory here as they took two CT side rounds opposed to wolsung’s one T side round (16:17). Upon the side switch though, Latvians completely shut down nyte and his colleagues to finish the game 19:17 in their favor!

“One more time XGR eSports showcase why they can’t be counted out of any game regardless of the opponent they are facing! Of course, a big part of this performance was HS stepping in for the team with his experience, mechanical skills and the insane ability to clutch rounds. He definitely was the one who laid pressure on wolsung guys as they started to feel this game slipping out of their hands.

Even though I want to give props to wolsung for regaining composure when it’s needed as they did close out the game in the overtime, the bigger props here goes to XGR eSports as they denied that one point to Latvian side. However, as seen from this game alone - it still takes a bit more than this to beat out wolsung, who slowly but surely are becoming a Latvian CS:GO power-house!”

Žalgiris vs WASD Sports

Gametime: 3rd of September, 20:00
Result: 8:16 on de_mirage

MVP: shokz - 24 kills, 15 deaths, 111 ADR

VOD: here!

The second game of the evening was not as intense as the first one, although it did have all the ingredients to be a blunder as well as Žalgiris were coming off hot from previous days stunning performance in the ESEA Advanced qualifier where they secured a place in the Advanced division for the next season!

The game however started off with WASD Sports taking a quick lead of four rounds on their CT side of mirage (0:4). When Žalgiris finally answered back with a round of their own (1:4), Estonians pushed the issue even harder taking five more rounds (1:9) while sending the message of ‘we’re not here to play around’ to their opponents! The half ended with Žalgiris taking one more round from the five played (2:13), thus trying to give themselves hope of coming back into the second half.

The start of the second half looked good for the Lithuanian side as heroics from Regg1e and Sterzig secured them the pistol round, while cleanly finishing off WASD Sports in the second anti-eco round (4:13). At that point the real challenge came - Estonians with AK’s in their hands decided upon a quick contact play towards A, which caught Žalgiris a bit off guard. In result WASD Sports took the round and the following one to make it a 4:15 game. At that point the victory for WASD Sports seemed inevitable and although Žalgiris did take four rounds back, Estonians closed the game out pretty convincingly.

“Look at it the way you want, but in my eyes there is just noone that can stop WASD Sports in the Baltic region right now as even Žalgiris who should have been on top of their game based on previous day’s ESEA Qualifier results, had nothing to put up against the sheer mixture of experience, skill and aggressiveness of WASD Sports! As for my theory that it’s harder for WASD Sports to play against any other Lithuanian team that isn’t 1337HUANIA - it might be somewhat true, but it just does not make any difference as they have reached a new level of CS:GO and everyone else is here to play catch-up! GG’s to WASD Sports on the game they showed us, while Žalgiris have to go back to the drawing board as even their coach is crying about their T side of mirage!”
