WASD Sports, MightyWolves, Žalgiris & SkinLordz successfully close out week 2

The last, final game day that was streamed this week is finished as WASD Sports for the second season in a row managed to upset the guys of XGR eSports, MightyWolves crawled their way to an overtime victory against ayned, Žalgiris completely demolished ESCELTIC, and last, but not least - last season runner-up team SkinLordz finally managed to score their first victory this season over eustonia!

XGR eSports vs WASD Sports

Gametime: 23th of August, 19:00
Result: 9:16 on de_nuke

MVP: Dodz

VOD: here!

The battle of Estonia started off with WASD Sports just exploding in XGR eSports’ faces as they opened up the game with a very convincing 0:5 lead on T side of nuke. While at that point XGR eSports did manage to finally take their first round on the board, WASD Sports were quick to shut down their economy making it a 1:8 scoreline. While the situation might have looked grim for XGR eSports at that point, mAXeLL- and his colleagues were not ready to give up just yet as they crawled their way back to a 5:10 first half and started off the second one with a victory on pistol round and the two following rounds (8:10). Though, the come-back was very short-lived as once WASD Sports brought out the big guns, the game just went in their favor till the very end!

“This was the game I picked for my Match of the Week hoping to once again see the same intense game we witnessed in season 1 between these two teams. Back then the game ended 34:32 in favor of WASD Sports! Yes, you read that correctly! This time around, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case as WASD Sports were looked really convincing and even though XGR eSports had a glimmer of hope in the 2nd half, they just were not able to stop Dodz!”

MightyWolves vs ayned

Gametime: 22th of August, 20:00
Result: 22:19 on de_dust2

MVP: keen

VOD: here!

The second game of the evening between MightyWolves and ayned was a really close one! The game began with MightyWolves courageously taking the pistol round, but the guys of ayned had a plan of their own as won the next force buy round, and with that - turned around the momentum of the game making it 2:7 in their favor. At that point MightyWolves decided upon using a tactical timeout after whom they actually managed to crawl their way back to a 7:8 first half.

After the side switch MightyWolves kept the momentum going as they took the pistol round and the following round making it 9:8 in their favor. Latvians kept going until the score line was 15:11 and at that point the game felt like it was over, but a masterful play from critu & feeldtzz saved ayned as they brought back a 5 vs 2 situation to win a crucial round that broke MightyWolves economy and let them back into the game! As Latvians struggled to play not only against their opponents, but also against their economy, ayned quickly brought the game back to an overtime (15:15).

The first overtime saw MightyWolves taking all 3 CT side rounds they played, but surprisingly not being able to convert them into a victory upon the side switch as ayned did the exact same thing making it 18:18. While the second overtime went in a bit off a different trajectory with MightyWolves once again starting on CT side, but managing to only take two rounds this time, it was enough for the Latvians to close out the game after the side switch as they took two more rounds to claim the hard fought victory!

“This was my Match of the Week and it definitely delivered! Right as I predicted - there is something more to what we have seen from ayned thus far and even though we could speculate and guess whether this result came on the back of MightyWolves struggling or ayned performing well, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the fact that we have to keep an eye out for both of these teams going forwards as MightyWolves have been on a hot-streak which just has to end eventually (but when?), while ayned has had a rough start of the season, but will inevitably turn it around, at least that is what I believe in!”

ESCELTIC vs Žalgiris

Gametime: 22th of August, 21:00
Result: 5:16 on de_mirage

MVP: Delection

VOD: here!

The third game of the evening was a blowout - a word that recently has been used too many times when talking about games that ESCELTIC play! The game started off with a quick 0:4 in favor of Žalgiris as they began their T side on mirage. It was then followed up by ESCELTIC taking three rounds of their own, thus seemingly showing up to finally play, but...once again, it was only a dream! Žalgiris went on to win the first half 4:11 and upon the side switch nothing really changed as only when Lithuanians got to the 15 round mark, ESCELTIC took one round back, but nothing came out of it and Žalgiris closed out the game!

eustonia vs SkinLordz

Gametime: 22th of August, 22:00
Result: 10:16 on de_train

MVP: prelideN

VOD: here!

The last, final game of the evening finally saw SkinLordz doing the things we are used to seeing them doing in the first season, despite playing with two substitute players. Latvians began their CT on train with a quick 0:3 and while eustonia did claim their first round right after that, SkinLordz once again shut them down afterwards with claiming two rounds of their own (1:5). In the 7th round of the half eustonia once again managed to squeeze out a round victory, but once again - SkinLordz were there to shut them down run away with it making it 2:11 in their favor. The first half was the finished off with eustonia managing to win the rest of the rounds making it 4:11 score before the side switch.

The second half started with eustonia bringing the momentum as they came out victorious in the pistol round only to be shut down once again by Latvians in the following force buy round and the next three rounds (5:15). Even though at that point the game was seemingly over, eustonia guys did not give up and took five rounds of their own (10:15) before SkinLordz finally managed to score their last, 16th round to finish off the game 10:16 in their favor!

SkinLordz, the vice champions of season one, finally have turned up and turned on their presence in the server. While playing with two stand-in's they managed to display excellent composure, despite a few scary rounds in the latter half of the game coming out of their opponents. Eustonia picked up a few close rounds and what started to look like a comeback was quickly shut down by SkinLordz. All in all - a great match to see, but slightly disappointed that eustonia couldn't adjust to the match sooner.”
